NFC tags
A Lynqu tag is a card, sticker or key fob with an NFC chip that carries one permanent link. Which card that link opens is decided in Lynqu, never on the plastic, so you can change it any time without touching the tag. Tags are free on every plan.
Your tags live under NFC devices: in the dashboard at lynqu.com and on the NFC devices screen of the iOS and Android apps.
Register a tag
Section titled “Register a tag”| You have | Do this |
|---|---|
| A blank tag | Choose New tag. Lynqu shows the tag’s link; write it to the tag with your phone, or in the browser on a computer with NFC. Write it once. The link never changes. |
| A tag with a printed claim code | Tap the tag, or choose I have a tag, and enter the code that came with it. The tag is yours from then on. |
You can hold up to 20 tags on one account.
Which card it opens
Section titled “Which card it opens”When you register a tag you pick the card it opens. You can change your mind any time: open the tag’s menu and choose Re-point. The next tap opens the new card.
| Setting | What a tap opens |
|---|---|
| A specific card | That card. If you later delete it, the tag opens your primary card instead, so a tag in someone’s wallet never goes dead. |
| My primary card | Whichever card is your primary at the moment of the tap. |
| No cards yet | Nothing, until you create a card. |
Every tap is a view of the card it opened, so taps show up in that card’s analytics as a breakdown of its views. The devices list also shows how often each tag has been tapped. Your own taps are not counted.
Remove a tag
Section titled “Remove a tag”Removing a tag releases it. It stops opening your card at once, nothing of yours stays reachable through it, and the next person who taps it can register it to their own card. That is the right move for a tag you lost or one you want to pass on.
Changed your mind? Tap the tag and choose Keep it on my account: it is yours again, as long as nobody else has taken it in the meantime.
A tag someone hands you
Section titled “A tag someone hands you”Some tags are not locked to one card: a team can hand out a batch at an event and let each member claim one by tapping it, and a released tag is open to whoever taps it next. When a tag can open your card, a strip appears above the card when you tap it, on the web and in both apps.
| The strip says | What it means |
|---|---|
| This tag can open your card. Use this tag | A team tag nobody has claimed yet. Pick one of your team cards. |
| This tag opens Ada’s card. Point it at yours instead? Use this tag | A team tag a colleague took first. Taking it moves it to your card. |
| This tag opens your card. Change card | It is already yours. Switch which of your cards it opens. |
| This tag was used for a Lynqu card before. Register it to yours? Use this tag · Keep it on my account | A tag its previous owner released. Use points it at your card for now; Keep adds it to your devices so nobody else can take it. |
A few rules apply:
- You must be signed in. A signed-out visitor who taps an open tag is asked to sign in first.
- A team tag only ever opens a team card, never a personal one. If you have no team card yet, ask an admin to set one up for you.
- A team tag you take does not appear in your devices list. You manage it by tapping it. Only an admin can lock it to your card for good; Keep it on my account is offered on released tags only.
- Someone who is not on the team sees the card and nothing else.
Write tags to give away
Section titled “Write tags to give away”Writing a stack of tags for other people, say 50 cards for a booth, or a tag for every visitor? Register them as handover tags instead of personal ones. On the phone, choose New tag, pick the card, and switch Handover on. Each tag is written straight away and the app offers the next one, so a stack goes card, tap, card, tap.
A handover tag is open from the start: whoever receives it taps it and takes it, exactly like a released tag. Until then it opens the card you chose.
- Handover tags do not appear in your devices list. The list is for the tags you carry; a tag you are about to give away is not one of them.
- Their taps still count. A tap on a handover tag is a view of the card it opens, and shows under NFC taps in that card’s analytics.
- A handover tag written for a team card stays with the team: only members can take it, and it shows on the admin’s fleet page as one batch, named after the card, no matter how many you write.
- You can hand over up to 2,000 tags this way. Need more at once? An admin can provision a batch from the fleet page.
